Rehabilitation of the Tirana-Durrës railway line and construction of a railway connection with Rinas airport
The project for the rehabilitation of the railway line Tirana-Durrës and the construction of a railway connection with the airport of Rinas, is under implementation and includes the rehabilitation of the route, signaling-telecommunication, fencing and level crossings.
The extension of the railway line (4 km) to the New Boulevard of Tirana with a new railway terminal in the heart of the capital, is nearing finalization for the Implementation Project for which funding is being provided by the EBRD.
The time that will be needed to travel from the center of Tirana to the “Mother Teresa” Airport will be about 10 minutes by train while from the center of Tirana to the center of Durres will take about 26 minutes.
This project is also expected to affect the opening of many new fronts, both during the implementation of construction works and during the period of operation of this railway line.
This project is a novelty in the movement of passengers to Mother Teresa Airport through the use of the train that will compete directly with the use of private cars, which will also improve car traffic at peak times and reduce air pollution in the capital and the city of Durrës.
