The Hellenic Railways and the Albanian Railway have agreed to co-operate in setting up a new railway line connecting the Greek city of Florina with the Kapshtica border crossing and further with the town of Pogradec in southeastern Albania.
The project is expected to be supported by IPA funds of the European Union under the INTEREG¬2 Program for the years 2014-2020.
The Greece-Albania railway connection project envisages the construction of a railway line from the beginning, which will be one-way and electrified.
The establishment of the railway network between Greece and Albania, in the framework of the European Union projects in the Western Balkans, would help not only to improve the movement of vehicles and goods, but also to promote tourism.
