In the framework of the Albanian Railway project for the rehabilitation of the Tirana – Durrës segment and the branch with Rinas Airport, the next awareness meeting was held with students and academic staff from Polis University, which operates near the track. Besides about 200 academic staff, the university has a number of over 1,300 students in all programs.
The group of students who took part in the meeting attend the II year – Urban Planning branch and among other things study technology and transport infrastructure and traffic management policies. The experts of the Albanian Foundation for the Development of Local Capacities (ALCDF), contracted by the EBRD consultants, performed the presentation of the data on the new railway project, the benefits that come from it but also the obligations to strictly respect the safety aspects.
Awareness for the safe use of rail transport includes both the period during the construction site and the phase of using the new network. The train as an alternative to travel between the two main cities of Albania is expected to bring a great benefit both in terms of shortening the travel time and its cost.
A special element of the project is the connection with the airport of Rinas, giving a more stable and safe alternative to transport through the main point of air transport in the country.
At the end of the informative/awareness session, the academic staff of Polis University undertook to further distribute the prepared materials to the students and place them in the internal environments.
