The project for the rehabilitation of the railway network connecting Tirana with Durrës and the new segment with the international airport of Rinas were at the center of the discussion held today at the Agricultural University of Tirana.
The technical team of HBMC, contracted by the EBRD, talked with the academic staff of this educational institution and students of the doctoral cycle. The Agricultural University of Tirana is also part of the project because the new train track in one segment passes through a property of this institution.
Awareness for the safe use of rail transport includes both the period during the construction site and the phase of using the new network. The train as an alternative to travel between the two main cities of Albania is expected to bring a great benefit both in terms of shortening the travel time and its cost.
Based on the need for the circulation of vehicles and citizens, the Tirana-Rinas-Durrës railway will have 19 road crossings and 5 crossings for pedestrians only. Level crossings will be equipped with automated barriers, flashing traffic lights and audible warning signals, while pedestrian crossings will contain full barriers, a warning system with lights and an audible signal as well as obstacles to prevent the passage of road vehicles. .
UBT academic staff and students show interest in the direct benefits they will have for the ease of movement through the train. They also undertook to carry out the distribution of informational materials to students and their placement in the open areas of the university.
While Albanian Railways Sh.a. is advancing through the contractor with field works, civil society organizations such as the technical team of HBMC, contracted to the EBRD are holding informative and awareness meetings.
